    Hydrocephalus…meet Hyperthyroidism

    BySkyewaters October 23, 2017October 24, 2017

A few years ago, I went to listen to a motivational speaker called Robin Banks.  At the time, I was severely depressed due to some major life changes and, in need of some extraordinary mind TLC.  “How fascinating..!” are just two words in reaction, I learnt at the time, to use when things go…south of the…

    Hydrocephalus: Deal breaker or not?

    BySkyewaters October 16, 2017October 16, 2017

“For better or worse, for richer or poorer…in sickness and in health, till death do us part”. Either you’ve uttered these words or heard them before.  This is part of a wedding vow…A vow we make to each other on the day we become husband and wife.  It’s a time when you view your whole…

Hydrocephalus : An invisible illness that’s painfully visible to me

    BySkyewaters October 11, 2017October 11, 2017

What no person with Hydrocephalus wants or needs to hear: “Most people I see are in a coma and…you look fine to me” – Neurosurgeon So does that mean I need to be in a coma for you to take me seriously? ********** “I get bad headaches too” – Family, colleagues and acquaintances I don’t…

Hydrocephalus : The friends and family you lose when living with an incurable condition

    BySkyewaters October 5, 2017October 7, 2017

I have only ONE out of the countless types of incurable conditions which exist at this point in time.  ONE condition amidst ALL other illnesses and diseases that plague the human race.  Therefore, I can only speak from the confines of that which afflicts me. I often hear the saying that “during times of difficulty,…

Hydrocephalus : Awareness begins with you…

    BySkyewaters September 29, 2017

Before the start of this year’s awareness month, I didn’t have a plan of what I would do.  However, a few days before, I felt a growing need inside of me to spread awareness simply because I recognise the need to shine a light on this invisible illness.  It wasn’t about making this condition bigger,…

Hydrocephalus: How do you deal with the card you’ve been dealt?

    BySkyewaters September 25, 2017September 26, 2017

Most people say that your attitude towards something will determine how you deal with it (or any challenges presented).  For the most part, I would tend to agree with this simply because I learnt a long time ago that if I let the negativity in, it might just consume me. Don’t misunderstand…I’m a realist by…

Hydrocephalus : What other choice do you have?

    BySkyewaters September 20, 2017September 20, 2017

I’ve been “lucky” to not have daily headaches or symptoms related to Hydrocephalus.  I have the odd episodes where I’m just knocked down physically and take a few days to recover.  This can be anything from dizzy spells, nausea (sometimes vomiting).  There have also been times where I’ve had headaches that lasted a few days…

    Hydrocephalus the elitist club…NOT!

    BySkyewaters September 12, 2017

Over the years of dealing with doctors, some have made me feel the need to (overly) explain why and how I developed Hydrocephalus. Almost as if to justify it… Granted it’s normal to be asked this at a first consult with a new doctor to give them the context and history they need, I’m not…

    The reactive nature of Hydrocephalus

    BySkyewaters September 6, 2017

As I’ve mentioned before, I work in IT and have always had the approach that being proactive is better than being reactive.  (In fact, this is my approach to life in general).  If you have the opportunity to solve an issue before it becomes a problem, then why not do that?  It’s like finding a…

Hydrocephalus:  So how much pressure is high enough? Speaking of CSF of course…

    BySkyewaters August 31, 2017September 2, 2017

Pressure…a thing that applied in any situation, in varying amounts, has different effects.  Say, for example, the amount of “pressure” your boss puts on you at work or that you most likely put on yourself, will have a different effect than your screaming child throwing a tantrum.  There’s a build up of emotion associated with…
