    Hydrocephalus : Let’s talk Incontinence…

    BySkyewaters June 23, 2019June 23, 2019

For anyone with Hydrocephalus, have you ever experienced incontinence as a by-product of your symptoms? Personally, I haven’t so can’t speak from experience.  However, I have read somewhere that when you have a fair amount of pressure build-up, you tend to urinate often.  Just how true this is, I haven’t a clue. How much do you stop yourself from partaking in a discussion or giving your opinion on something? In a work situation for example – Do you ever feel yourself withdrawing because you feel less confident?  Because you feel that your opinion isn’t valid or maybe you struggle to make sense of the thoughts in your…

    Hydrocephalus : What I wish you knew…

    BySkyewaters May 27, 2019May 28, 2019

Just because I’ve had brain surgery does NOT mean I’m cured.    There is NO cure – that’s the reality of the condition. If I have to face it then…it shouldn’t be too hard for you.  And, just because I’ve accepted my reality, doesn’t mean I’m being negative.  If anything, I’m being realistic in my approach.  Not…

    Hydrocephalus: The tides we face…

    BySkyewaters May 16, 2019May 16, 2019

Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love the ocean.  A beach house, right next to or on the sand will be my wish come true.  With that said, I don’t for one moment take for granted the powerful beauty it possesses.  However, as much as I love the ocean and it’s beauty, I…

Hydrocephalus : How does a mother “take it easy”?

    BySkyewaters May 10, 2019May 11, 2019

I’m a mother of 3, living with Hydrocephalus for the last 12 years, since diagnosis. For the most part, I’ve had a “good run” with the effects of the condition (well, as good as it gets, I suppose). Funny thing is, life didn’t exactly give way when it decided to thrust an incurable condition my…

Hydrocephalus: What’s your timeline look like?

    BySkyewaters May 3, 2019May 3, 2019

Why hasn’t it crossed my mind before?  Only after my visit to the Neurosurgeon on Monday, did I think to build a timeline of “episodes”.  Looking through all my blogs, I found a pattern and almost feel like I’ve been sounding like a broken record over the years.  (Apologies to anyone who discovered this little…

If there’s one thing I’ve come to learn the hard way in life, it’s to listen to your gut.  No matter how many times life teaches me this lesson, I still fall prey, to learning the hard way. You know, that little voice that you hear but can’t quite place where it’s coming from or,…

    Hydrocephalus : More than just a dream…

    BySkyewaters April 20, 2019April 21, 2019

Some time ago, I asked the question “Will there ever be a cure?” The general consensus was “Highly unlikely…”, not something anyone wants to hear (I for one, don’t).  But, being a realist, I could see why this response had a common trend.  In short, there are too many causes of Hydro to produce one…

Hydrocephalus: How much do you “lie” to appease someone else’s response to the reality you face, of living with ill health?

    BySkyewaters April 10, 2019April 10, 2019

“Hopefully by the end of this month all the medical drama will come to an end…” I uttered these words to a friend today and heard a little voice mocking me, saying: “Are you sure about that..?“.  Truth is, saying these words is like making a promise, you know you can’t keep.  I’ve always had…

Hydrocephalus : When diagnostic tests show everything as “normal”…

    BySkyewaters April 7, 2019April 7, 2019

“Normal” . What the hell does that mean anyway..? Do you ever just get a tad cheesed off by results which show “normal”?  When you feel all the discomfort which spurs you on to seek medical help, yet test results show “nothing is wrong“.  I think it’s a very fine line between knowing your condition…
