There are so many reasons why this happens to people: Concussions, domestic violence, sports injuries, motor vehicle accidents, etc. And yes, even brain surgery.
You (literally) go from one moment to the next…injured beyond your own understanding.
Like a butterfly, you have a rebirth of sorts. Becoming someone else in the process. It’s confusing. It’s raw. It’s full of emotion and it challenges you in ways you never thought possible for yourself. There is loss of self, and others, as nothing prepares you for these uncharted waters. Testing the strength of love and commitment. And, a sadness as the life you knew is changed, gone forever.
It’s life! Constantly throwing things at you to overcome, changing the landscape and building upon your resilience. Threatening your sanity and resolve to stay in the game…
So, you learn to adapt. You work your way towards acceptance because anything less will leave you wanting. Once you realise you can’t change any of it, you find a new way of: living, breathing, existing…
What needs to change will be evident only to you therefore, make the required changes to YOUR life. Have YOUR best interests at heart. I’m not saying it will be easy because, it’s highly likely, it won’t be.
Remember: You WILL grow from this because you are stronger than you realise. Despite your mind telling you to do so, NEVER give up!

May 9, 2023 at 10:09 pmWhat other option is there? My husband suddenly lost most of his sight two years ago. He has adapted wonderfully, but he has a family and is the only breadwinner, so he had to keep his job. Technology has allowed him to do that.

May 9, 2023 at 10:14 pmI’m sorry to hear that. To answer your question, there isn’t any. We simply have to do what we can. All our circumstances are different and, because of that, we do what we have to.
All the best to all of you💙
